The river Sitalakhya, one of the most important and prominent rivers in the flood plain region of Bangladesh is located in Narayanganj, an industrial zone of the country. The present deterioration of its water quality is not related to the water itself but also to the danger of diffusion of toxic substances into the ecosystem. Again the general and poor people of the country are lacking access of safe water for drinking as well as for their domestic use. The present situation is enough to take prescience for any educated person to foresee problems in the future for water bodies with all its benefits. This study has put best efforts to give an overview about the present contamination scenario of the river including historical trend of pollution.
