Proteins are the most important and essential food components. The growth of the fish depends upon the quality of proteins in the diet. The scientific fish culture in India aims at a high rate of the survival and production of spawn, fry, fingerlings and table sized fish. The aim is achieved by fertilization of the ponds and by providing supplementary feeding to the fish stocks. But, in intensive fish culture systems where the density of spawn, fry and fingerlings per unit water area is kept very high the proteins and certain other nutrients become growth limiting factors. Present study analyzes the effects of various dietary proteins commonly used in the culture practices, on the growth and survival of the common carp spawn.
