Since the last decade of the 20th century, there has been increasing interest in the theoretical development and measurement issues of the concept of emotional intelligence (EI). Key motivation behind this interest is to identify whether or not this recently introduced concept accounts for variance, which is not accounted for by the conventional cognitive intelligence in various domains? The main objective to design the studies incorporated in this book was to develop and validate the self-report measure of the trait emotional intelligence, and to see its relationship with marital quality. The objectives of the research were achieved in four independent studies. This book will guide the upcoming researchers regarding the procedure of scale development and the establishment of psychometric properties of a newly constructed scale. Relevance of EI with mental health and quality of marital relationship has also been discussed. It can provide guideline to mental health experts and marriage counselors in mapping out counseling/treatment plan for the patients of depression, and poorly adjusted couples. It also addresses students of psychology, sociology, human resource, business, and marketing.
