Attention to pregnant women has been increasing in health care. One of the important problems in pregnancy is urinary tract infection, as neglecting the treatment of urinary tract infection can result in health and economic problems. Changes in sex hormones and anatomic and physiologic changes lead to increased risk of bladder and kidney infection in pregnancy. Very little academic literature exists on the prevention aspect of urinary tract infections as safety of various agents during pregnancy has not been well studied, and hence hesitation to use any of these for the purpose of prophylaxis or treatment remains. This book provides the evidence based review regarding safety of various agents for prophylaxis and treatment of urinary tract infections in pregnancy. This should help in wider usage of safer agents, thus reducing the prevalence and complications of urinary tract infections in pregnancy.
