Service-learning is an educational method that connects the school curriculum with acts of service performed by students. Many service-learning programs have demonstrated success in citizenship and academic learning, however few studies have been performed at the secondary level, and none have been directed in the state of New Jersey. This study focuses upon the potential academic impact of service-learning in New Jersey public high schools by utilizing state report cards and a survey disseminated by the Stated Learn and Serve Program in a causal-comparative design.
