Using cognitive theory of multimedia learning, this book examined the different effects of text-picture annotation and audio-picture annotation on L2 vocabulary immediate recall and reading comprehension. The study carried both theoretical and pedagogical implications; theoretically, the study aimed at contributing to the growing body of multimedia L2 vocabulary studies by providing the much-needed information on the nature of audio annotation on L2 vocabulary learning; pedagogically, the study provided information for CALL material designers with practical suggestions in choosing the appropriate combination of modalities, and informed language teachers and administrators in adopting different multimedia programs that facilitate L2 vocabulary learning and reading comprehension.
