The number of individuals with parents from two different ethnic groups is growing rapidly, necessitating research on the developmental processes of bi-ethnic individuals. This book examines the nature of identity development in young adults of Asian and European descent. In this qualitative study, participants were interviewed about their bi-ethnic identities and the perceived influences on identity development. The key findings that emerged from interview responses include types of bi-ethnic identity and major categories of influences on bi-ethnic identity development. This study offers important insight into the nature of bi-ethnic identity and influences on its development in bi-ethnic Asians. The new contributions provided in this book make it useful and important for anyone studying or interested in the developmental processes of individuals whose heritage includes more than one racial or ethnic group.
