This book describes the design, implementation and construction of a pair of 3-way digital loudspeakers. The fundamental design of the digital loudspeaker aims to move the digital to analogue conversion (DAC) process to as close to the end of transmission chain as possible. By harnessing the latest digital signal processing (DSP) technology, it is possible to effectively transmit and receive the digital audio signals, while retaining the digital format until it requires conversion for analogue signal amplification and a direct output to the drivers. This allows minimal or no loss to the original sound quality to be achieved (i.e. a low signal to noise ratio). The loudspeaker cabinet design in this project utilises Solidworks 3-D modelling software to generate geometric models. This allows minimisation of the effects of both standing waves and diffraction which cause deformation of the signal being reproduced. Due to the use of the cabinets curved geometry and shape; it also creates an aesthetic appeal which is a large variation from traditional box shaped speaker systems.
