Since mid 1980s, Turkish politics has been suffering from the traumatic impact of a number of challenges, primarily centered on the Kurdish and Islamic perceptions of political subjectivity. In this book, Zafer F. Yörük employs psychoanalytic and discourse analytic tools to present the contemporary polarisations in terms of a crisis of Turkish identity. This research probes through the sediments of the symptomatic scars of conventional perceptions of Turkishness to their constitutive traumas, which correspond to the moments of exclusion of a number of "Others". Yörük concludes that this genealogical insight is essential to reveal the structural causes of contemporary crisis of Turkey in the 21st Century and to meet the undeniable necessity to redesign and redefine its political identity and subjectivity.
