Bonding of Soft Polymers to Acrylic Prostheses: Silicone and Acrylic Polymers in Dental and Maxillofacial Prostheses
David C
This book is based on experimental studies of maxillofacial prostheses. The effect of fibre reinforcement at the interface between silicone and acrylic polymers was investigated. Treatments that enhance bonding of silicone to acrylic substructures for intra-oral dental and obturator prostheses were established. Bond strengths were studied following aggressive thermo-cycling procedures. All acrylic interfaces tested had a clinically acceptable range of bond strength with silicone. The net-fibre reinforcement of the acrylic interfaces enhanced the bonding to silicone, increasing clinical serviceability.
