Effects of parenting practices on children is a major issue both for psychologists and parents. The primary aim of this study is to discuss the effects of parenting practices on the academic competence of the Turkish high school students. Apart from parental practices, maternal employment, parental marital satisfaction, parental educational level, school attitude of the adolescents, and importance of education for the child are also considered as potential determinants of academic competence. Another major question is whether there is a difference between high and middle socio-economic groups in terms of the effects of parenting practices. The study not only provides evidence for the psychologists but it also guides educators and parents of high school children.
