This book is about small-scale entrepreneurs (SSEs) contribution to job creation among the youth. The problem of the study is: there is high unemployment rate among the educated youths and yet less educated SSEs employ themselves. The objectives of the study were: to examine the contribution of SSEs to job creation; the characteristics and skills responsible for job creation; attitude of the youth toward SSEs; factors that constrain SSE initiatives and job training strategies. Fieldwork study consisting of 467 participants was carried out in Kampala through interviews, questionnaires, checklists and focus groups discussions. The findings showed that SSEs contribute greatly to job creation among the youth; there are characteristics and skills of SSEs that are responsible for job creation; the youths adopt a positive attitude toward their trainers during training; apprenticeship and on-job training are still the best approaches to train the youth; SSEs face constraints and job-creation training strategy is to introduce meThe Contribution of Small-Scale Entrepreneurs tal fabrication workshops at schools.
