Over 70% of the participants in this study reported they had been the victims of intra-familial violence, and little is being done to prevent or even mitigate their suffering. The majority endures in silence, unaware and uninformed as to what constitutes abuse and about the little help that is available. This quantitative, qualitative study was based on the information retrieved from 175 participants, using an instrument comprised of 32 multiple choice and open-ended questions designed by the researcher to establish the magnitude, severity, frequency and type of domestic abuse as experienced by women in the town of Cayambe, Ecuador.
