Empowering Smallholder Poultry Producer through Capacity Building Mearg Fitsum

This study was conducted to contribute to poverty reduction at household levels through increasing household incomes, consistent with the government policies in Jimma town. Information collected on constraints of poultry production revealed that lack of modern poultry rearing knowledge and disease predators, and feed shortage was the most important problem affecting poultry productivity respectively. We have tried to intervene with some of the constraints and training, and field visits were provided to smallholder farmers. After training provision, poultry farm visits, construction of hay box brooder, construction of poultry house, provision of day old chicken and provision of chickens with discount cost were the main intervention undertaken during the project.
