Andrographis paniculata is used to treat infections and some diseases, often being used before antibiotics were created. Andrographolide is the important secondary metabolite from this plant. To improve the production of this secondary metabolite, various elicitors are used. An 'elicitor' may be defined as a substance which, when introduced in small concentration to a living cell system, initiates or improves the biosynthesis of specific compounds. Elicitation is the induced or enhanced biosynthesis of metabolites due to addition of trace amounts of elicitors. Clone selection will be performed according to the capability to produce andrographolide compound. Various types of in vitro culture such as callus, suspension, and organ cultures derived from seed will be induced and investigated under different culture conditions in order to enhance upscale production of andrographolide compound. Micro organisms like Bacillus, Agrobacterium tumefaciens, E-coli and Yeast are cultured to obtain the biotic elicitors required for the elicitation of the callus in the cell suspension growth on its maximum growth.
