Metal cutting processes still represent the largest class of manufacturing operations. One of the main features of any material removal process is that a significant portion of the mechanical energy generated by the interaction of the tool and the workpiece is converted into heat. The total amount of heat generated during cutting is the combination of heat of the chips, the tool, and the workpiece. This work focuses on analysis of the thermal field of the oblique machining process. Finite element method (FEM) software DEFORM 3D was used together with experimental work carried out using infrared image equipment, which include both hardware and software simulations. The results of the high precision infrared thermal measurements are compared with simulation results, considering the maximum and the mean temperatures in the tool?chip interface zone and the temperature distributions in the tool rake face. using different materials, tool obliquity, cutting speeds, feed rates and depth of cut.
