The Effect of Question Preview on High and Low Level Proficiency: How Does Varying Pre-listening Activities Affect Second Language Listening Comprehension?

The purpose of this present study aims to investigate the relationship between gender, proficiency level and Iranian EFL learners' performance on pre-listening activities. 90 Iranian EFL learners' participated in the present study. They received three different types of listening support which were (question preview, repeated listening, and pre-teaching vocabulary). Language proficiency test was administrated to divide them in to high and low level groups. Also there were three experimental groups. The first experimental group received pre?question activity, the second experimental group received repeated listening and the third experimental group received pre-teaching vocabulary. Data analysis has been done with Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) software. T test, One-Way ANOVA and Post Hoc were used to analyze the collected data. The results showed that Question preview was the most helpful support to different gender and proficiency levels.
