Rivers in Bangladesh: Flood Frequency Analysis: a Comparative Study of Probability Distributions
Dipa Awale
In Bangladesh, no fixed distribution is used for flood frequency analysis of annual maximum discharge; however, some countries have adopted a standard distribution. A suitable probability distribution function is employed to estimate relationship between flood magnitude and its return period. This information is crucial in planning and designing hydraulic structures and carrying out flood risk assessments. This study compares five probability distributions which were analysed by using Anderson-Darling (AD) test.
