Aesthetics of Kenyan Drama Films Simon Mutunga
Aesthetics of Kenyan Drama Films
Simon Mutunga
Despite the fact that film production in Kenya faces a myriad of challenges ranging from lack of skilled manpower to lack of funds, a vibrant film industry has existed in Kenya since independence. The world however, knows very little about Kenyan film because much of it is consumed locally and very little if any is consumed beyond Kenya. Scholars too have done very little research in regard to Kenyan film thus leaving a gap in knowledge when it comes to film studies. This book describes the dramatic aspects of Kenyan drama films. It also seeks to establish the peculiarities of its aesthetics and investigates the sociocultural aspects embedded in the films, because the writer believes that any work of art reflects society. For the sake of clarity and in-depth analysis, the writer has used three Kenyan films in his analysis. This book will be of great value to scholars who desire to compare and contrast Kenyan film with film from the rest of the world. It will also provide a frame work to those who would wish to critique Kenyan films. It is also a valuable book in all film schools since it will equip students with knowledge and skills necessary in film analyses and in film production
