Treatment of Tea Wastewater by Electrocoagulation
Fred K. Segor
Waste water treatment has become a big challenge to industries since conventional methods are unable to remove pollutants to acceptable levels. The main challenges in the treatment of tea wastewater are; colour, BOD and COD emanating from phenols present in green tea catechins. This book provides some understanding on electrochemical processes capable of removing colour, COD and BOD from tea wastewater. The method was optimized for total colour removal using specific energy consumption as the indicator while varying process conditions such as electrode gap, surface area to volume ratio, potential difference and solution temperatures. The method was successful in the reduction of COD, BOD and colour hence applicable in industrial wastewater treatment. This book therefore provides a success in the use of stainless steel electrodes in solving wastewater treatment challenges in the tea industry.
