Persian Definite and Indefinite Determiners- a Minimalist Analysis
Elham Salehian
This book is a minimalist analysis of Persian postnominal determiners, ?e and ?i, their structural positions in Persian DPs, and the Persian DPs headed by indefinite determiner ?i forms a phonological phrase. It is argued that stress as a key element influences the structural positions of ?e and ?i so that ?e attracts the stress and it forms a single PWd with its stem while ?i falls outside the stress domain without an independent unit. Furthermore, it is held that ?i joins to the phonological phrase level of prosodic hierarchy. This is compatible with Peperkamp's (1997) analysis of different incorporation sites for clitics and Selkirk's (1995) analysis of different possible prosodic structures of a function word.
