Text Book of Verrucous-papillary Lesions of Oral Cavity: Clinical Features, Histopathological Features, Differential Diagnosis, Hpv Pathogenesis
Vamshi Krishna Boyapati
Most of the verrucous lesions represent proliferations of the surface epithelium but alternatively, some are the result of pathological changes occurring in the lamina propria with secondary elevation of the epithelium. It is generally believed that exophytic lesions with verrucous or papillary surface originate from the epithelium. The human papilloma viruses are unique viral forms capable of inducing cell proliferation, particularly in keratinocytes. Some specific genotypes are responsible for the clinico-pathological variations seen in papillary lesions. Many lesions have overlapping features both clinically and microscopically. Therefore, close communication between the surgeon and the pathologists is necessary to establish the most appropriate diagnosis. Hence, this book provides a more detailed clinical, histopathological and differential diagnosis needed to differentiate all the verrucous-papillary lesions affecting the oral cavity.
