It contains 18.24 per cent of protein which is almost three times more than that of cereals. Field experiments were conducted under the title ?Agrotechniques to enhance Kabuli chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) productivity in Northern Transitional Zone of Karnataka.? at the Agricultural College Farm, University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad, Karnataka, during rabi season of 1997-98 and 1998-99 for two consecutive years. The results of practical utility are (1) Second fortnight of October is the most optimum time for sowing Kabuli chickpea, (2) Under irrigated conditions, the crop needs to be sown latest by first fortnight of November, (3) Sowing of Kabuli chickpea at second fortnight of October with 0.6 IW/CPE ratio resulted in maximum net returns and B : C ratio, (4) Kabuli chickpea genotype ICCV-2 recorded significantly higher yield compare to BG-267 and (5) ICCV-2 at 3.33 lakhs/ha (30 cm x 10 cm) and 50 kg/ha Phosphorus recorded higher seed yield, net returns and B: C ratio compared to other treatment combinations.
