The Psycho- Social Dimension Of Sexually Transmitted Diseases: A Study in Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital, Zaria examined the socio-demographic characteristics of nine hundred and sixty one patients that attended the sexually transmitted disease clinic(STD) otherwise known as special treatment clinic. Findings revealed presence of disease in females as young as under 5 years old and as old as 55 years old. Most patients(60.35%) were single, The study highlights the relevance of social,psychological and cultural factors in prevention treatment and care of persons infected with sexually transmitted infections. Patients perception of disease . Secrecy, sexual exposure even with disease, extended family system(especially for the under 5 years) and Polygyny were identified as factors in the spread and the associated difficulty in the control of sexually transmitted disease in the Nigerian Society.
