Poverty is a curse for mankind. It worsens the health of the people of the country, resulting into low productivity and low working capacity that reduces the aggregate output of the country and people become poor. India is a developing country and Dhanbad District of Jharkhand is in the periphery of the country. People of India and Dhanbad are seriously sufferers from poverty. Now-a- days governments are conscious towards the removal of poverty. Social group disparities and poverty in India may be viewed as a purely distributional issue and by way of the specific factors underlying these disparities. However, these two ways of looking at the issue are interlinked. Empirical evidence suggests that in terms of absolute poverty, the rate of decline in the extent of poverty has been faster for the category of other groups as compared to the SC (scheduled caste) and ST(scheduled tribe), in the overall time period under consideration.
