The need for new, safe and more effective antimicrobial is a major challenge to the pharmaceutical industry today, especially with the increase in opportunistic infections. The discovery of antibiotics had a major impact on the control of infectious diseases and the development of pharmaceutical industry. Screening of microorganisms for the production of novel antibiotics has been intensively pursued for many years. The Streptomycetes are the producers of more than half of the 10,000 documented bioactive compounds which have offered over 50 years of interest to industry. In view of all the above facts, the present investigation was designed to isolate and screen the antibiotic producing actinomycetes from mangrove sediment soil and characterize its novel compounds and test their potential applications as a way to control the present infectious disease. The result obtained in the present investigation indicated that S.parvulus KUAP106 produced a non-protein, heat stable antimicrobial tetraglucosidic antibiotic. This antibiotic is a good drug against various pathogenic microorganisms. The actinomycetes even today are a source for discovery of new antimicrobial antibiotics.
