The word esthetics is derived from the Greek word ?AISTHETIKOS? meaning perceptive. It pertains to the sense of beautiful or the science which deduces from nature and taste, the rules and principles of art. The term esthetic was coined in 1750 to designate the science of sensuous knowledge which gave beauty in contrast to the science of logic which gave truth. The most important consideration during complete denture construction is the restoration of last esthetics. Esthetics goes much further than the mere placement of the teeth on the occlusal rims, size, shape, color of artificial teeth and denture bases are important in construction of an esthetic denture. Different people have expressed different opinion for making esthetically pleasing dentures. Young stressed the importance of corresponding face from and tooth form. Devan & Earl Pound have emphasized the importance of corresponding selection, placement & position of artificial teeth in order to make natural looking dentures.
