The book focuses on labour migration in relation to development in Uganda, and thus, of its nature, it is rooted in the challenging discourse on development and migration. Uganda?s recent approval of labour exportation as a development strategy, and the setting up of the Department of Labour Externalisation, coupled with the number of labour migrants already leaving Uganda, have captured my academic interest leading to the study of this pertinent topic. Questions of whether the exportation of labour from Uganda is one new viable path to development in the country are raised and continually scrutinised in this book. One wonders whether Ugandan migrants may be considered Hero/heroines or deserters. The book addresses this development conundrum that is also faced by many other countries on the continent and beyond.
