Agro-industrial by-products and non-conventional feedstuffs in the diets of ruminants should support growth and lactation and result in the production of edible food for human beings. Among such feedstuffs, atella, traditional brewery residue and noug seed cake could be an important source of feed for ruminants. Supplementation of sheep fed hay with atella improved total dry matter intake (DMI) without affecting the intake of the basal diet, which was attributed to lower fiber fraction and higher CP content of atella which might have enhanced the efficiency of rumen microorganisms resulting in improved intake.
