In Ethiopian historiography enough attention is given only for the northern and central parts of the country. The remain peripheral areas including the Ethio-Sudanese borderlands in which the Berta people settled for centuries remained with almost nonexistent literature. This book, therefore, is prepared aiming at narrowing this gap by dealing with the origin and settlement processes of the Berta people and the role of the region?s natural resource potential and strategic location in attracting foreign powers. It also deals with politico-economic changes and continuities in the area during the imperial and military regimes of Ethiopia. Beyond historians, this book provides other scholars with crucial information to deal with resettlement schemes and the subsequent environmental and cultural results. Moreover,it enables readers to understand about peaceful co-existence among multicultural societies of Assosa.
