Library automation is the use of computers to control processes and replacing human operators. It is the technology concerned with the design and development of process and system that minimize the necessity of human intervention in their operation. Its advantages are repeatability, tighter quality control, waste reduction, and integration with business systems, increased productivity and reduction of labors. Some disadvantages are high initial costs and increased dependence on maintenance. Therefore, for the automation in the library, the library must adopt library software. The library software is one of the most significant tools for executing proper library management. It is the hallmark of today?s ever-changing library scenario. Library software provides better access to information. It also increases the retrieval speed and accuracy of information. This paper has therefore endeavored to assess the existing library management software of some selected libraries in Dhaka City.
