Chronic Suppurative Otitis Media is one of the commonest ear disorders in developing countries. It can affect patient of all ages and its one of the commonest cause of preventable deafness. There are two main varieties of CSOM viz the tubotympanic variety and the atticoantral variety. Both the varieties can present with a discharging ear. It?s important to clinically distinguish the two varieties as the surgical management is different. The atticoantral variety, also referred as the unsafe variety is associated with increased possibility of developing intracranial complications which can be life threatening. Therefore its crucial to differentiate the two varieties of CSOM to prevent complications and for timely management.
