Counseling is a relatively new profession in Kenya therefore a large majority of the existing practicing counselors have not been effectively trained. This jeopardizes the clients chances of recovery from the problems that afflict them. Efforts to improve their effectiveness through proper and systematic training are of primary concern now more than ever. The study seeks to show how the counselor training program should embrace the prevailing socio-economic conditions in order to strengthen their learners' capacities to react to a variety of situations. It investigates how the training program deepens the learners' awareness of the social circumstances surrounding them. The study made use of relevant materials in literature review that can assist scholars conducting research in the same field.
