Lower respiratory tract infections are the commonest cause of morbidity and mortality in hospital admissions. The work in this book clearly indicates that there is great need to undertake more exhaustive studies on course of the disease, pathogenesis, role of genetic factors, influence of environmental factors, guidelines for health care providers regarding effective ways of managing disease, research to gauge the impact and reduce the risk from growing air pollution, urbanization, recurrent childhood infections and occupational exposures.
