Small arms are the most readily available, weapons for internal and external defence securities of any country. This is mainly due to their comparative benefits in terms which include; Portability, affordability, manipulation in usage, control to restrict to a particular target or area of attack, their cost of production and operation and maintenance. Nigeria is a developing country that is frantically groping for ways of catapulting herself to at least the political, socio-economic and technological levels of the world leaders on the issues, but all these cannot be achieved without adequate and dependable security of her citizenry. Since attaining Independence in 1960, the country has had the challenge of a civil war to her unity are many social and security problems to contend with. In all these small arms have been the main weapons used to contain her security problems. This explains the indispensability of the arms to the national security survival of the country. This book discusses the basic developments in the arms and their production levels in Nigeria to see areas of improvement, all for continuous enhancement of the country?s defence capability at minimal cost.
