Opportunistic invasive fungal infections remain an important cause of morbidity and mortality. The most common fungi that cause disease in transplant recipients and other immunocompromised patients are Candida and Aspergillus species. Mortality from invasive yeast infections appears to be less than the mortality from invasive mold infections. There are several approaches to manage these infections, including prevention, anti-fungal prophylaxis, and empiric therapy.
