A Sociological Study of Youth Organisations in the City of Shillong Riolinia Jones Nongrum

??Youth is the embodiment of energy and enthusiasm which can be utilised for the socio-economic development of the nation and eradication of social evils as also for their welfare as well as that of the society?. In almost every human society of the world youths have organised themselves into organisations to pursue certain goals. Youth organisations have become effective as pressure groups and have been successful in getting their demands implemented. Every human society experiences social conflict. Ethnic conflict in particular, is a phenomenon prevalent in almost every society. Clashes result in societies especially where groups culturally differ one from another. In Shillong the youths have been the most active in all the unrests that had taken place in the city. All these organisations were formed with the purpose of protecting the interests of the indigenous population. This Study is an attempt to examine the different youth organisations that are active in the city.
