ECG signal aggregates potentially precise information that could assist the clinicians in making more appropriate & timely decisions in lethal moments. Autonomous system with features of ECG characteristic extraction and heart rate measurement from such electrical response using powerful and advance methodologies are of ultimate interest. VLSI implementation of a portable Holter monitor design is presented in this work considering parallelism, distributed algorithm and re-configurable computing to allocate the DSP implementations. Lacks of bulk production opportunities have forced us to implement it in SmartFushion FPGA prototype board using Verilog micro-coding. A comparative study has been carried out to show the performance, accuracy and cost-effectiveness of the proposed hardware. This could open up a passage for the researchers to afford in lessen the production cost, for physicians and end users to draw attention in their cardiac physiology and to advocate a personal monitoring system.
