In this book the importance of availability of suitable testing media in pharmaceutical development procedures is shown as they can help decrease the need for using living subjects in procedures such as solubility testing of drugs. using examples of steroid drug solubility in simulated intestinal fluids (SIFs) instead of actual media from small intestine, and comparing it with plain buffer results, it can be argued that these SIFs mostly (but not always) can represent intestinal media.
