Fractal image compression (FIC) is one of the most recent image compression techniques. It offers a high compression ratio with extremely short decompression time. However, it suffered from long compression time. In this book, an improved PIFS scheme is introduced which uses two discrete cosine transform (DCT) descriptors to classify the zero-mean range-domain blocks and to address the isometric state of each block to reduce encoding time while while maintaining reasonable image quality. This book, therefore, provides a great success in fractal compression field of the colored images and should be useful to professionals in image processing field and data communication.
