Dietary factors play a key role in the development and preclusion of several human diseases, including cancer, diabetes and cardiovascular diseases (CVD). Numerous chronic diseases and age-related metabolic disorders are closely associated with oxidative stress appeared in the body. Plant foods, a richest source of phenolic compounds and flavonoids, may provide protection against chronic diseases by contributing as antioxidants with defense system of the body. Flavonoids-rich plant foods may also have antiaging effects, and help in preventing age-related deterioration of brain function that is linked to dementia and Alzheimer?s disease. The aim of this communication is to give a comprehensive overview of the beneficial health effects of flavonoid-rich foods (FRF) and discuss the action of dietary flavonoids as antioxidants. We examines existing literature on different FRF like fruits, vegetables, beverages and herbs, providing enough evidences about their health promoting effects. Due to their significant disease prevention and curing abilities especially in multifactorial diseases like CVD, these are regarded as superfoods of the millennium.
