The relation between India and Germany has a long history. On 23rd March 1505, three merchants from Ausberg and Nuremberg, Hans Mayr, Balthasar Sprenger and Ulrich Imhoff,set sail for India on three ships as representatives of the first India consortium of German traders,to engage in barter trade with Indian merchants in search of precious stones and spices. The book makes an attempt to understand the bilateral relationship, analyzing the past and recent development with focus on economic relationship between India and Germany. The basic objective of the present study is to analyze the value and composition of changes,since initiation of India?s five year plans,in Indo-German trade relation dealing with East and West Germany separately before unification of Germany. This book is intended to provide comprehensive information to academicians, trade negotiators and policy makers,stakeholders and historians in understanding the Indo-German trade relations.
