The ultimate goal of periodontal therapy is to regenerate the components of periodontium that was affected by periodontitis. The peptide P-15 is a synthetic clone of the 15-amino acid sequence of Type-I collagen, that plays an important role in the binding of cells, particularly fibroblasts and osteoblasts, and in the initiation of other cellular events like migration, proliferation, and differentiation that are necessary for periodontal regeneration. Based on this concept, the ABM/P-15 combination was developed. ABM/P-15 consists of an anorganic bovine-derived bone matrix (ABM) coated with a synthetic cell-binding peptide (P-15). The presence of peptide markedly enhanced the ability of ABM to attach cells and may draw cells of non-bone origin to initiate differentiation and osteogenic repair
