This study provides a detailed assessment of the healing processes of five surviving victims of the Japanese military?s system of sexual slavery during WW II. While the conclusions cannot necessarily be generalized to all victims, the findings can provide a background for future studies on the healing processes of female victims who have gone through war and sexual violence. I hope this study lays the groundwork for exploring the means to heal the traumatic legacy of WW II, as a step toward establishing positive relations between Japan and its neighboring countries in Northeast Asia. I further hope it helps ensure that such historical trauma will never be repeated.
