It is thought that gender bias in education is an outcome of socio-cultural causes in developing countries like India. This study finds that this is only partially true. Demand side factors leading to such gender bias against the education of daughters are guided more by economic reasons today. Interestingly some of the bias can be corrected by addressing supply side responses though a complete strategy involves public policy measures . The book attempts to advocate suitable steps that the government can take to address the problem and target higher rates of female literacy in India
