This book analyses the employment of Health Information Systems (HIS) in two major university teaching hospitals in Jordan; King Abdullah University Hospital (KAUH) and Jordan University Hospital (JUH). The analysis mainly adopted qualitative methodologies of a questionnaire and interviews. Generally, Medciom and Oracle HIS are in use at KAUH and JUH respectively. Their users indicated HIS has enhanced their daily work of improving inter-departmental communications; saving time of medical procedures; easy data retrieval; decreasing professional malpractices; and increasing administrative efficiencies. However, technical difficulties in the form of system maintenance requirements and inflexibility were the HIS drawback identified by some users. However, these findings reinforce HIS advantages reported in the literature in light of the two Jordanian hospitals? user expertise. Such results can encourage other hospitals in Jordan to adopt HIS in their healthcare delivery process.
