Development of the Slovenian Saxophone Repertoire: Historical Overview and Musical Analysis
Simon Sirec
While studying the classical saxophone and its literature in Slovenia, the question of tradition and the meaning of basic parameters defining the tradition, has been constantly present. Saxophone is a very young instrument and has been in Slovenia, in its classical orientation, actively present around 25 years. If speaking about tradition, it would be impossible to define it only by chronological presence of the instrument. Therefore, further observations were needed in order to draw accurate conclusions. As an active player and by that a member of the saxophone culture in Slovenia, the author felt an obligation to find those facts, and to prove the thesis that the saxophone in Slovenia has already established its own tradition.
