Forest resource management is based on some concepts viz; forest rotation, forest sustainability, forest accounting etc. All these concepts are taken into consideration through a forest policy, which is essentially required for forest resource management. Bangladesh, being a third world country has a long background of forest resource management. Historically the whole process of management is guided by the national forest policy. However, this forest policy is suffered by some serious flaws as it could not addressed some genuine problems viz; i) inadequate administrative capacity, ii) technical drawbacks and iii) socio-economic problems. In contrast, forest resource management of European countries places emphasis on multifunctional role of the forest. Moreover, European management pays high consideration on sustainability of the forest. With this backdrop, this book highlights the key areas of deficiencies lies in Bangladesh forest resource management as compared to a European one. The book also suggests some policy recommendation in relation to effective management of forest resources paying paramount consideration on sustainability of environment and forest.
