Due to a better salary development in the long run, corporate promotions are replacing ad hoc salary increases as the biggest rewards for employees. Hence the use of corporate promotions as an incentive needs to be corporately steered. Therefore corporate promotions could be included in a company's performance management, which would simply create an additional, strong incentive tool. The focus of this paper lies on the one hand on performance management and on the other hand on corporate promotion. The general goal is to link these two vital processes, including the developed "Promotion based performance management framework". More specifically, the objective is to give further insight in how incentive schemes, based upon performance management, contribute to steer and motivate employees, and whether performance management does affect corporate promotion decisions and which factors/elements are influencing these decisions. Therefore empirical evidence, by a case study at a mayor Austrian telecommunication company with 9 exploratory interviews, is applied.
