The book explains the meaning of basic religious concepts and goes on to study of religion according to various approaches. These include sociological, psychological, phenomenological, philosophical, theological, etc approaches. The book also discusses the phenomenon of secularization and the survival of religion in spite of secularization. It also discusses the positive and negative impacts of religion on society. The author argues that religion is part of human nature, that it is the search of human spirit for the divine spirit, and that religion is as old as man on earth and will remain on earth as long as man remains on earth. That no human power can suppress religion because the force underlying it is beyond human power.
